Because I wanted a simple way to share files without creating an account, paying for another subscription, or uploading everything to another non-private cloud drive.
I don't make money from VeilShare. It's a project built because I enjoy making things that have a real use. There are no ads, no tracking, and no subscription.
You shouldn't blindly trust anything on the internet.
However, you could open DevTools in your browser. You will see:
Because it's free, there has to be some size limits:
End-to-end encrypted file sharing means that files are encrypted directly in your browser before they are uploaded. Only you and the recipient can access the contents of the file.
This means, even if we wanted to, we cannot see file contents because the encryption key never reaches our servers. Your encryption key is included in the shareable link (the part after "#").
When someone downloads a file, they must have the complete link containing the key. If the key is lost, the file cannot be recovered.

If you've ever searched for how to send a large file through email and landed on workarounds involving compression or Google Drive links, this is simpler.
Most email providers enforce a hard email attachment size limit, which makes sharing anything substantial a headache. Whether you need to upload CAD files, send a large video, or figure out how to send a ZIP file via email when it's already too big to attach - VeilShare makes it easy: upload the file and share the link instead.
It sidesteps the size restrictions entirely and keeps the file end-to-end encrypted in the process.
When you need to share confidential files, the transport matters as much as the destination. VeilShare encrypts files directly in your browser before they ever leave your device, so only someone with the correct download link (and therefore decryption key) can download them - not us, not your email provider, nobody in between.
Transferring files across different platforms is more annoying than it should be, especially without a shared ecosystem. VeilShare keeps it simple: upload from any device, share the link, done.
If you're trying to figure out how to send a large video on iPhone, this is probably the cleanest option available. Large videos routinely exceed the limits of both email and messaging apps, so instead of compressing or trimming, just upload and share the link. After upload, VeilShare also shows a QR code - point any phone or tablet camera at it and the download opens instantly, no copying and pasting needed.
Because accounts require collecting data.
VeilShare is intentionally designed to collect as little information as possible. No accounts means:
It depends on what you need. If you're looking for a Google Drive alternative, Dropbox alternative, or WeTransfer alternative specifically for quick, one-off file transfers, rather than permanent cloud storage, VeilShare is a strong fit.
Key differences:
If you need long-term file storage, a full cloud drive is probably the better option. But for sending a file securely to someone right now, VeilShare is hard to beat.
The size limit on Gmail attachments is currently 25 MB per email. Similar limits exist on most email providers.
If your file exceeds the email attachment file size limit, upload it to VeilShare and share the download link instead.
This is especially useful when you receive errors such as "file too large for destination" or when attachments are rejected by the recipient's email provider.
