What happens when you share a file

Encrypted on your device
Your browser creates a random key and encrypts the file with AES-256-GCM before anything is uploaded.

Stored encrypted
Our servers only ever receive encrypted data. Without the key, it's unreadable to us too.

Opened by your recipient
The key travels inside the link, after the #. Their browser decrypts the file on their own device.
Who can read your files? Most services encrypt your files and keep the key. VeilShare never has it.

Yes, VeilShare can be used completely free. The project was built because we wanted a simple way to share files without needing to create an account or uploading your sensitive data to another service that tracks you and shows you ads.
We only make money from people buying plans. The service is meant to be free for anyone who wants it without needing to pay. Paying is only for those who want to support the project or need higher limits.
No. You can upload, share, and download files without ever signing up.
Creating an account is entirely optional. It's there for people who want to:
- Buy a plan for more storage space
- Manage uploaded files for easier access
- Keep files until you delete them, and share them with links you control
Yes, in case of fire, water damage or similar to the infrastructure your files are safe. However, if you manually delete your files, they are gone. That's for your privacy and by design.
The high safety is because it's stored on Cloudflare's R2 buckets. You can read more on this page.
You shouldn't blindly trust anything on the internet.
However, you could open DevTools in your browser. You will see:
- Only encrypted file data is sent to the server
- No raw encryption key is transmitted

Limits and other features vary depending on your account status.
The limits for a non logged-in user are:
- Up to 3 GB in storage
- Up to 25 GB daily download
- Files are deleted when their link expires or if download limit is reached
The limits for a logged-in user are:
- Up to 5 GB in storage
- Up to 50 GB daily download
- Files are kept until you delete them. It acts more like a clouddrive: you manage share links separate from files
Buying a plan raises your storage and daily download limits. You can view more at the pricing page.
You can pay with a credit card (auto-renewing subscription) or a one-time Bitcoin payment (never auto-charged). When a plan isn't renewed, your account simply reverts to the limits above.
You can top-up or upgrade any time. When you upgrade, your remaining time is converted into bonus credit on the new plan. No need to wait it out first.
We offer multiple payment methods.
Credit Card/Apple Pay: the easiest option for most people, and subscriptions renew automatically so you don't have to think about it. Payments are processed via Stripe, so we don't see your card details.
Bitcoin: for anyone who'd rather use some spare crypto or want to be more private. Even though Bitcoin and most other cryptocurrencies aren't completely anonymous, it is definitely more privacy respecting than traditional fiat payment methods.
