Encryption: who can read your files?

Google Drive encrypts files in transit and at rest with AES-256. That protects against someone intercepting the upload or stealing a disk, but not against Google itself: Google says it accesses your private content only with your permission or when required by law, and its Drive policies say it may review content for violations of those policies. Google also states that Drive doesn't use your content for advertising.

End-to-end encryption is only available on Google Workspace Frontline Plus, Enterprise Plus, Education Standard and Education Plus, and only if your organization turns it on. Personal Google accounts can't use it.

VeilShare encrypts every file with AES-256-GCM in your browser before a single byte is uploaded. The key lives in the part of the link after the #, which browsers never send to a server. We only ever store ciphertext, so we couldn't read your files even if we wanted to.

Accounts and personal data

Google Drive is part of your Google account, so you need one to upload and share files. Recipients of an "Anyone with the link" share can use the file without signing in.

VeilShare never asks for an email to share a file. You drop a file, get a link, and that's it. An account is optional and gives you 5 GB of storage, permanent links and an end-to-end encrypted drive with folders, available from any device.
